The Magic Stick in Detroit is a funny place in the fact that it has two venues, one that also doubles up as a pool hall, a bowling alley, a bar and a very nice restaurant.  The restaurant doesn’t really fit the surrounding area, but it seems very popular.  The last time we played the Magic Stick the food was very good so I was looking forward to it this time.

I decided to have one of the specials which was Hazelnut Encrusted Tilapia  with a Tarragon Sauce and came with Sauteed Spinach and a Sweet Potato Pancake. Tilapia is a fresh water fish by the way.

It was well presented and came steaming hot, possibly a bit too hot.  The hazelnut crust wasn’t that nutty, you would occasionally get a mouthful of hazelnut which contrasted nicely with the fish, but generally it wasn’t that nutty.  The fish was very tasty, nice and moist, and flaked really easily.  The spinach was very flavoursome and still had lots of bite to it.  The sweet potato pancake wasn’t a pancake, it was more like a potato rosti or a hash brown.  It was nice though there was too much of it compared to the fish or the spinach.  It was a very nice meal and I’d definitely recommend it.

It was expensive at $18.95 (US) but it was worth it.

Tomorrow we look at Milwaukee.
